The Farm Department, a branch of the U.S. Agritary, is committed to creating care farm opportunities for Veterans and their families through programs such as the PTSD Foundation’s Warrior Group. This initiative provides a supportive environment where Veterans can build community, strengthen resilience, and explore agricultural and dirt therapy activities. These sessions often lead to hands-on farming experiences—planting seeds, preparing gardens, and operating tractors—while encouraging Veterans to consider future careers in agribusiness and even managing their own Farm Department installations. Havens Acres, our first Farm Department site, is a small farm producing fresh garden fruits and vegetables and free-range chicken eggs. We actively engage with local farmers markets, restaurants, and brewpubs, and are researching specialty crops and livestock grazing to diversify our offerings.
