Two orphan wells located on the Matagorda Island Block 487 (MI-487) Platform in the Gulf of Mexico are actively leaking produced water and condensate. Two additional orphan wells located on the same platform were also determined to have extensive corrosion of the surrounding grating and well heads that is similar to the original leaking well. Requesting additional emergency funds to continue plugging Well No. 12 and to plug Well Nos. 5, 8, and 9. Original funds in the amount of $900,000.00 were approved on March 27, 2024. The District office in Houston contacted three (3) vendors that could provide the services and selected the vendor that could respond immediately and was the best value for the State of Texas.
