Electrical Permit - Repair

📋 Project Description

Our customer recently purchased this (2206 Rio Grande St. Bldg A) property and asked for an inspection of their facility. During the walkthrough we located several Federal Pacific breaker panels that were providing power to dormitory units and deemed these to need replacement. Once work began we found load wires coming from the meter base were deteriorated to the point that the insulation was revealing the underlying conductor. We also identified 4 old meter bases that had been jumped using #10 wire providing the full 200A of power to the Federal Pacific panels that were to be replaced. Due to all of these conditions we determined that the existing equipment could not safely remain energized. Unfortunately this facility also lacked the presence of an emergency disconnect for these panels I attempted to reach out to the City of Austin and Austin Energy via phone and email and received no response. Due to the presence of these unsafe conditions the meter was removed to prevent damage to the property and its residents. I spoke with Hyatt Dunn who put me in touch with the on-call inspector Dan Kiser. Dan was able to perform an initial inspection of our work via FaceTime and deemed it safe to release the meter and restore power and advised me to establish an emergency permit and final on-site inspection within 24-hours. At this time all of the required work has been completed and is ready for final inspection at the earliest possible time.
